Her Majesty Thyra

Þóra Eiríksdóttir, known to all and sundry as Thyra, Queen of the East Kingdom, hails from the beautiful and formidable Danish lands. While true to her fierce Viking Era heritage, she is living in the era of Margrete Valdemarsdatter, Queen of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Thyra is a founding member of House Darostur, sister household to House Lochleven.

The daughter of a successful merchant from Hedeby, Thyra spent many of her early years with little care but for dancing and shopping. She was a favorite guest at many gatherings, willing as she was to help in the kitchens, particularly with the washing up. When she was old enough, however, she ventured forth from home on an expedition to the Dominion of Myrkfaelinn, deep in the wilderness of the Kingdom of Æthelmearc. There, she learned to shoot a simple bow and many gentle fiber arts besides.  During this time, the Household of Darostur was founded, with the purpose of creating a welcoming family for newer members of the Society.

She continued her services to the marvelous cooks of the Dominion, and also encouraged the graceful arts of dancing. For these things she was awarded arms by Henri d’Artois in AS XXXVIII, and furthermore was inducted into the Order of the Keystone by Maynard and Christina in AS XXXIX.

After three interesting years in Myrkfaelinn, she returned home to the Shire of Quintavia, to live quietly with her lord Matthias Grunwold and to continue her various activities in relative obscurity. However, in AS XLIV, she was called to the court of Their Majesties Edward and Marguerite, where she served together with Lady Margaret of Lochleven, now Baroness, as Head Retainers of Their staff.  This allowed her to travel to lands both far and foreign as a member of the retinue, where she has made friends and influenced people. At the end of Their illustrious reign (long live Their memories), Thyra was made a Baroness of Their court in AS XLV for her services.

Recently, Thyra has been a dance minister for her home Shire, sharing her love of European dance with others. She was made a member of the Order of Terpsichore in AS 46 by Gregor and Kiena.  She is also fond of Middle Eastern dance, and both participates in and encourages the art form in the Society.

She also sews, most notably as a founding member of the Worshipful Company of Their Majesties’ Underwear. She is a member of the Narrowworker’s Guild and the Keepers of Athena’s Thimble. She is an archery marshal and a scribe, and she has been a student of Mistress Eva Woderose in those aspects of the Society. Thyra is currently the Keeper of the Silver Chalice for the Shire of Quintavia for her enthusiasm and support for the arts, and was a former Keeper of the Golden Arrow.
